Break Free Sportfishing

Break Free Sportfishing was born from the need to provide a next level professionalism, meets a down to earth experience on the water.  Break Free Sportfishing is owned and operated by Captain Tanner Gray.  Tanner has been fishing since he could walk.  His early days were spent with his Dad learning how to trout fish in New Jersey.   It's easy to see how his passion has manifested into the angler and captain he is today.  He built his first pole at age 7 and began fly fishing at the age of 8.  Tanner has been fishing the waters of Topsail since the age of 14.  His love for fishing grew when his family built a house on Topsail in 1995.  He quickly began inshore fishing from his 13 foot Boston Whaler for reds, trout, and flounder. 

 

By the age of 27 he quickly moved into the offshore aspect of fishing.  Tanner has been fishing the waters off Topsail and offshore for 29 years.  He saw a need for what he considers sportfishing.  He has since taught his kids to fish and learn the quality of life on the water.  Seeing a need to offer both family friendly oriented trips and hardcore offshore fishing, BREAK FREE SPORTSFISHING was born.  He is locally known for catching world class grouper on a consistent basis using light tackle.  So if you desire an evening on the local waters of Topsail, nearshore family fishing day, or a hardcore tug of war with a world class fish look no further.  ​
